Poet

Robin Houghton’s All the Relevant Gods bears the confident hallmarks of an accomplished poet ready for a first full collection.

Robin Houghton

My first full collection of poems, working title The Mayday Diaries, will be published by Pindrop Press in late 2024.

I have had four short collections (pamphlets) published, including Why? And other questions, which won the Live Canon Pamphlet competition in 2019 and All the Relevant Gods, which won the Cinnamon Poetry Pamphlet Competition in 2018. I was awarded the Hamish Canham prize by the Poetry Society in 2013 and have won or been placed in a number of competitions including the Plough Prize and the Stanza Competition, and commended or shortlisted in many others including the Bridport and the National.

My poetry is published in many UK literary magazines, print and digital, from The Rialto and Poetry News to Mslexia and Magma. I’ve been writing a poetry blog for over ten years where you can see a full list of publishing credits and competition successes & awards.

Magazine submissions windows

As a (free) service for poets, I produce and distribute a list of poetry magazines and their submissions windows, updated quarterly. Plus monthly email reminders. I keep track of all the information so you don’t have to!

A Guide to Getting Published in UK Poetry Magazines

First published in 2018, I produced an updated version of this booklet in 2020. Currently sold out, but a new, expanded version is in the planning.

Reviews & features

I review poetry collections for The Frogmore Papers and have done so also for Envoi. I have written features for Poetry News, Envoi, The Alchemy Spoon and The Author.

Editing & publishing

I co-edited TRUTHS: A Telltale Press Anthology in 2018 and am currently co-editing a Hastings Stanza Anthology. Telltale Press was a poets’ co-operative I co-founded and was involved with for four years, learning poetry book production skills including layout & design.
